Our story
We started as a group of K9 handlers who relocated into the area for work, seeing no nearby options for SAR K9 resources. We formally founded in early 2025 to help fill the void in Central Montana. Our handlers come from a range of back grounds including law enforcement, firefighting, and the local school district to name a few.

Area Live find
When people think "Search And Rescue K9s" a lot of people think the cop with the bloodhound and a long leash. However, there are a number of different disciplines, including Area K9s. Those K9s DO NOT need a scent article or a trail. Unlike following a trail to find the person lost in a corn field, area K9s will find everyone in the corn field. These K9s often cross-train into Urban SAR (Disaster), Avalanche, Water and Human Remains Detection (HRD) as they work on the same basic foundation.

Tracking/Trailing K9s
As always we can get way more detailed but these K9s follow a path (either scent or disturbance) to find our subject. They are helpful in Urban areas and when the direction of travel is not known.

Human Remains Detection (HRD)
If you have seen at least 3 episodes of 48 Hours, you probably have heard of these K9s. They are trained and certified to "indicate" on human blood, tissue, bone, teeth. It is a very particular smell to the K9, if your dog "keeps finding dead things", that does not mean they will make to be a good HRD dog. Depending on the certification, these K9s range from wide area wilderness searches to forensic K9s who can indicate on buried locations, cars, buildings, burn piles, burnt buildings, to name a few.
